Translate & Adapt alternative: when Shopify’s free app is not enough
Translate & Adapt is Shopify’s own translation app, it’s free, and it’s where almost every store starts. So the real question isn’t whether it’s good, it’s when you outgrow it.

The short version
Stick with Translate & Adapt if your catalogue doesn’t change often, and a weekly update (or clicking Auto-translate yourself) is quick enough for you.
Unlost is the better fit if you add or change products often and want every language to follow within a minute instead of once a week, or you have text in your theme’s code that needs translating too.
Where they really differ
Keeping up is the big one. In select countries, Translate & Adapt’s Auto-sync updates automatic translations once a week; elsewhere you click Auto-translate. A product you add on Monday can wait days before it appears in your other languages. Unlost translates new and changed content within a minute, on every paid plan.
Languages. Translate & Adapt’s free AI translation covers two languages, or eight in select countries. Unlost’s plans go from one to ten, and more on request.
Quality checks. Unlost keeps product names as written, gives short texts like buttons and options a second check, applies your glossary and a formal or informal tone per language, and puts anything uncertain in a review list for you.
Hard-coded text. Text in a Custom Liquid block or other custom code never shows up in Translate & Adapt. Unlost translates it.
And they get along. Both save translations in Shopify, and translations you’ve added by hand in Translate & Adapt are kept when you start with Unlost. You don’t lose your work by switching.
Translate & Adapt’s plans
Translate & Adapt is free. According to its listing, you can use Shopify’s AI translations for up to 2 languages, or 8 in select countries, and add unlimited manual translations. In some countries, Auto-sync keeps the automatic translations up to date each week; elsewhere, new automatic translations are added when you click Auto-translate. What Unlost translates
Pretty much everything a shopper reads: products with their variant options, collections, pages, blog posts, menus and policies; SEO titles, meta descriptions, URL handles and image alt texts; notification emails; your theme’s texts, including text written straight into the theme’s code, like a Custom Liquid block; and the metafields your theme shows.
All of it is saved in Shopify itself, so it stays in your store if you ever remove the app. Product names stay as you wrote them, short texts like buttons and sizes get an extra check, and anything uncertain goes to a review list. Edits you make yourself are never overwritten.
