How to get your translated store found in ChatGPT and Perplexity
More and more shoppers skip Google and just ask ChatGPT what to buy. They ask in their own language, and the answer points to stores that have a good page in that language.
A few weeks ago a customer from Spain ordered from my store. When I looked at the order, Shopify showed where her first visit came from: ChatGPT. She’d asked for a product in Spanish, and my Spanish product page was the answer. I hadn’t done anything special for it, apart from making sure that page was properly, completely translated.
Why language decides whether you show up
An AI assistant answering a question in German looks for pages that answer it in German. A store with only English pages, or German pages where half the text is still in English, is a weaker answer. Shopify even tells you when an order started in an AI assistant: open the order and look at the conversion details.
What makes a page worth recommending
It’s complete. Title, description, variant options and the text in your theme, all in the same language. A page that switches language halfway reads as low quality, to people and to machines.
The SEO title, description and URL are translated. They’re often the first thing a search engine or assistant reads. Left in the original language, they hide everything underneath.
The images are described. Alt texts put your product photos into words; translated, they help the page match questions in that language.
Every language has its own URL. Shopify takes care of this for every published language, including the hreflang tags that tell crawlers which page belongs to which language.
It’s up to date. A new product that only exists in your own language simply can’t be found in any other.
